Backflow: the
reverse flow of liquid or substances into the drinking water supply pipes from any source other than its intended source (safe
drinking water from your provider).
Backflow preventers protect the water supply from contamination
or pollution. Testing of these devices is required annually to ensure they are working properly. This mandate
stems from the Safe Drinking Water Act enforced by the EPA. All public water systems in Texas are required to have cross
connection control programs to prevent backflow. There have been many documented cases of water contamination
resulting in illness and disease due to improperly installed plumbing or lack of backflow preventers. The sources have
